The Ballad of the Khalsa

From the light came the beginning, this is the age of the True Guru
From the light came the beginning, this is the age of the True Guru

CHORUS
Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh
Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh

1]  Guru Nanak came into this land
To preach One God for all of man
He sang a song of love and ecstacy
To bring men’s hearts into harmony

2]    Baba Nanak found one disciple true
Bhai Lehna became the guru
Guru Angad was a man of selflessness
He grew in love through righteousness

3]    Guru Amar Das- spread equality
All who came to see him ate in unity
Leave behind your grandeur, leave behind your schemes
Come live life’s ultimate dream

4]    If you chant the name of the fourth Guru
The virtue of grace will be found in you
Guru Ram Das said can’t you see
The only way to God is humility

5]    When you chant the hymns of the fifth Guru
The pearl of peace will belong to you
Guru Arjan Dev wrote the Sukhmani
So man could sing of infinity

6]    Guru Hargobind wore two gleaming swords
To be both temporal and spiritual Lord
Internally a hermit, externally a king
To fight for righteousness is God’s thing

7]    Guru Har Rai was a gentle man
He walked with grace throughout God’s land
He spent his days in meditation long
The love of the Lord was his life’s song

8]    If you chant the name of the eighth Guru
Pain and sorrow shall depart from you
Guru Harkrishan gave his life to the plague
So thousands of lives could be saved

9]    When you call the name of the ninth Gur
The nine treasures will run to you
Guru Teg Bahadur gave his head to the king
In order to usher in the age of the SINGH

10]  Guru Gobind Singh said “I need a head”
And brandished his naked steel
Guru Gobind Singh said “Give me a head”
A thousand people took to their heels

11]    Guru Gobind Singh believed in the trinity
Hospitality, the sword, and victory
Guru Gobind Singh believed in the trinity
Deg  Teg  ki  Fateh!

12]    Think of the light of the ten Gurus
The Word of God, the Truth of truths
Meditate on Siri Guru Granth Sahib
And all of your sufferings shall be relieved
