Dr. Hardev Singh Virk will lead a discussion on “Relevance of Guru Nanak in Modern Scientific Era”

Abstract:

The advent of Guru Nanak during 15th century coincided with the Renaissance in Europe; a revolt against Christianity by Martin Luther in Germany; and the Copernican revolution in Astronomy in medieval Europe. With the advent of modern era of Science and Technology, a raging debate started that religions have lost ground to Science. The discoveries of Science falsified many myths of old religious scriptures. However, Guru Nanak and his revealed Bani has stood the test of time.

Guru Nanak revolted against the hegemony of priestly class, both Hindu and Muslim, challenged the exploitation of the masses by the ruling classes, rejected myths of old religious order by following a logical and scientific approach based on inductive logic. He was the first prophet who promoted secularism, humanism, and scientific ideas through his writings. The concept of Big Bang Cosmology proposed by George Lemaitre in 1932 can be traced back to Guru Nanak during the 15th century.

The thought of Guru Nanak is much more relevant in the modern era of Science and Technology. His experiment in Social Engineering started in Kartarpur during the last phase of his life and his mission to create Gurmukhs in the world at large needs to be propagated during 550th anniversary of his advent.

As always, will  look for active participation by the Sangat in an environment that encourages interactive discussion.

Did Nanak have anything more to say than what Ramanuja had already said 450 years berfore him?
